The Bulb Region is the region where much of the Dutch bulb cultivation takes place, characterized by the many bulb fields. The Bulb Region is mainly praised for its tulips, and to a lesser extent for its crocuses, daffodils and hyacinths. The Bulb Region developed in the late 16th century and in the 17th century. The tulip mania in particular played an important role in the development into what is now known as the Bulb Region.
In the north, the Kennemerland, a sub-area of the Bulb Region, has been interrupted by the North Sea Canal since 1865.
