The St. Michael's Church or Stiftskerk in Thorn is a parish church whose parts largely date from the 14th century. It was the collegiate church of the Benedictine Abbey in Thorn. It is a Gothic cruciform basilica with an eastern recess under the intersection and the choir. There is a raised "queen's choir" in the south transept that was once close to the abbess's palace. The substructure of the westwork is a remnant of an older Romanesque church. After the dissolution of the monastery in 1797, the old parish church was demolished and the municipality took this church into use. The famous neo-Gothic architect P.J.H. Cuypers restored the church in the 19th century. Cuypers had the eastern chapels demolished and raised the tower.
