The vast forests between Baarn and Hilversum were owned in the 19th century by Lady Louise Charlotte Rutgers van Rozenburg (Amsterdam, 13 August 1854 - Amsterdam, 1 April 1908) and are known as the Hooge Vuursche. She marries the young Johannes Adrianus Leonard van den Bosch, and together they live in a house on the spot where the castle now stands.
After her death, Van den Bosch married Baroness van Hardenbroek, and commissioned architect Eduard Cuypers to build a castle. Many ornaments are images that have to do with shipping, because Van den Bosch is a merchant marine officer. The gardens are laid out by landscape architect Tersteeg from Naarden. The existing pond is extended by 1500 meters and the excavated sand is used to raise the soil around the pond. The hills are called the Blood Mountain.
On the entrance gate is the year 1912, but it is assumed that the castle was finished in 1911. The family throws many parties, but stays in the United States so often that they decide to sell the castle to Hotel Maatschappij Gooiland. He sells it to Heineken, who turns it into a conference centre. In 2007, the Event Company, together with an investor, bought the castle from Heineken and thoroughly renovated it. There are 18 guest rooms in the castle and the coach house now has six meeting rooms.
The castle is one of the wedding locations of Baarn.
