Oudenrijn junction, where the highways A2 and A12 intersect, is the oldest traffic junction in the Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Utrecht, about five kilometers southwest of the Utrecht city center. The traffic junction owes its name to the former municipality of Oudenrijn. In 1954, a municipal reorganization took place, during which the eastern border of Oudenrijn moved westward to the A2 highway and became part of the municipality of Utrecht. The remaining part of Oudenrijn was considered too small for independent existence and merged into the newly formed municipality of Vleuten-De Meern. Since January 1, 2001, Oudenrijn has been a neighborhood within the Utrecht districts of Vleuten-De Meern and Leidsche Rijn.
