The Church, although named "New Church", dates back to the 10th century. What stands out the most is that in the 12th century a new one was built dedicated to the martyr Livinus from Scotland. It was said that the church had the arm of the martyr, although this martyr never existed; many children bore his name at that time. It was 3.5 times larger than today's, the largest in all of Zeeland at that time. Due to the neoclassical style of the church, there was no natural light, so masses were held with candles. This caused a great fire on October 6, 1832, leaving everything destroyed except for the walls, but it was decided to create a new one following the same style.
