The lake in the De Marspolder nature reserve is a former sand extraction pit that is managed by the Geldersch Landschap. In 2003, the sand extraction was completed and a beautiful nature reserve was created. The management is aimed at maintaining the variation between the open and closed character of the area. The nature reserve is an Eldorado for birds, such as barnacle geese, white-fronted geese and wigeons. The water in the lake is remarkably clear.
