A hill in a marshy area was a safe place for settlement during the Middle Ages. This concerns the establishment of a small monastery around the year 1000. That monastery did not exist for long, but it has always been a refuge for rising waters through the centuries. Since 1637, Heiligenberg has been a country house that changed owners many times thereafter. Nothing remains of the original 17th-century house. It was demolished in the early 19th century. The house as it looks now dates from 1815. There is now an educational institute located in it. The house and park are not accessible.
