The Brook

Landgoed De Beek is a nature reserve of the Goois Nature Reserve near Naarden in the municipality of Gooise Meren. The area of 16 hectares consists of mixed forest with water features. It is located east of the A1 motorway and is intersected by the Oud-Blaricummerweg from Bussum to Huizen.

The estate used to be part of the Bosch van Bredius with the adjacent area Oud Bussem. The estate had a formal construction in the 17th and 18th centuries, based on French garden architecture with geometric shapes, straight sections and avenues, star forests, ornaments and water bowls. During the construction of the forest garden around the De Beek house, use was made of dug sandworks ditches, but also of the natural transition from high to low. A spring with seepage water probably led to the name De Beek. In 1925, the sanding of the site of the present nursery was started. Many boxes were planted after the war. The area neglected during the war has been managed by the Goois Nature Reserve since about 1948. The estate is characterized by water features, heavy hardwood and rhododendrons. The stinsenflora is also worth mentioning.
