The Protestant church in Vlijmen, located at Grote Kerk 20, is a historic church building, of which the oldest parts date back to the 13th century.
Already in 1285, there was a written mention of a church building at this location. It was dedicated to John the Baptist, thus referring to the St. John's Chapter in Liège, which held the patronage rights of this church. This was transferred in 1285 to the Abbey of Berne. From all this, it can be concluded that the church must be even older. The two lower sections of the tower of the current church still date back to the 13th century. The low third section also dates from that time. It contained the sound holes. Inside the tower, there is a vaulted dome, which is rare for North Brabant.
