The Battery on the IJweg was a reinforcement of the Defence Line of Amsterdam between Fort near Hoofddorp and Fort near Vijfhuizen on the Geniedijk Haarlemmermeer near the IJweg access.
The fort has been largely demolished. A powder magazine is still present under an earthen mound. Since 1978, the sculpture The Binoculars has stood on top of the hill. In 2002, the Geniedijk and the Battery were part of the Floriade.
