The mill was built in 1882 to replace a mill at Beverweerd Castle. The mill operated on wind power until the 1920s, after which an electric motor took over its function, leaving only the stone structure of the mill over time. Since 1986, the Stichting Korenmolen Werkhoven has been working towards complete restoration. In 1994, the mill was again put into operation on wind power and is capable of milling. The blades are 23.7 meters long and are equipped with the old Dutch sail system. The mill grinds grain on a voluntary basis weekly, thanks to several volunteer millers.
