The large country house Doornburgh is located in a landscaped park between the Diependaalsedijk and the Vecht. The 18th-century house faces the river with its façade, there is a view of the water over lawns and between groups of trees. The house is accessible via a long winding driveway from the Diependaalsedijk.
Doornburgh has two outbuildings, a carpenter's house, an ice cellar and two fences. The fence on the Vechtkant has been beautifully worked (and thoroughly restored in 2002). There is also a new complex on the site, the Priory Emmaus.
Doornburgh probably goes back to a 17th century homestead. Pieter Brugman and Hendrick de Beijer are eligible as builders. At the beginning of the 18th century, Willem van Zon was probably responsible for the radical renovation and the installation of the beautiful fence. Around 1800, land purchases had created a country estate with a large park. In the first half of the 19th century, the forest and park were given a landscape designed by J.D. Zocher Jr. with bushes, lawns, meadows and ponds.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the house was restored and converted into a museum.
During the war, the house was uninhabited. After the Canonesses of the Holy Sepulchre had acquired Doornburgh in 1957, the Emmaus Priory was built in 1965 to a design by Jan de Jong and Dom van der Laan.
The park is open to the public, entrance is required of at least € 5, -
