The Defensie Island is a peninsula in the Dutch city of Woerden, located between Woerden railway station and the central area. The island, with a size of approximately 3 hectares, is surrounded by water, namely the inner and outer moats, both of which are connected to the Old Rhine. On the east side of the island, the river Korte Linschoten flows into the Rhine. The shape of the site was created by partially filling in the former inner and outer moats that run around Woerden. The star-shaped structure of the retreat has disappeared, as has part of the moat around the castle.
