Westeinde Bird Sanctuary

Vogelreservaat Westeinde is a meadow bird reserve and it is located between the A4, Stompwijk and Westeinde, in the Groote Westeindsche Polder. It is popularly called Hell. The Westeinde is wonderfully noisy in the spring with dozens of singing and calling meadow birds. In the beautiful, bumpy and herb-rich grasslands they find a safe place to breed. The richness of flowers in the summer is reminiscent of the time when the farmland was still flowery. And in winter, thousands of geese come to hibernate here.

A surprising number of species find their home in this polder, such as the spoonbill, egret, godwit, cormorant, buzzard, fish thief and summer teal. Polder Westeinde forms a wide green backdrop along the A4 motorway. A familiar sight for many. On the other hand, few people know this green area and its inhabitants up close.
