The Schiekade is a street north of the center of the city of Rotterdam that separates the Provenierswijk from the Agniesebuurt. Tram line 25 of the RET uses the median strip of the traffic artery. Originally, the Schiekade ran alongside the Rotterdam Schie. In 1931, the section of the Schie between Stadhoudersplein and the elevated railway was filled in to make way for the new residential neighborhoods Blijdorp and Bergpolder. In 1939, it was decided to fill in the Schie between Hofplein and Stadhoudersplein. After May 1940, this was carried out using rubble that had resulted from the bombing of Rotterdam. This led to the local saying: "In the past, the Schie flowed through Rotterdam, but now Rotterdam flows through the Schie."
