Blikkenburg was a knight's court town in the province of Utrecht in the Overkwartier, south of Zeist.
The house was probably founded in the middle of the 14th century by a gentleman from the old family of the Wulven. The coats of arms also match, only that is of the genus of gold and red. One of the founder's daughters is said to have married a Frederik van Zuilen, after which his children called themselves Van Zuilen van Blikkenburg.
