There is a mysterious story about the old hollow way near the village of Beek, close to Nijmegen, which dates back to 1665. It is about Katharina van Wyler, a woman who was regarded as a witch by the local population due to alleged godless practices. When her son died of the plague and was "brought back to life" by her after the burial, this was seen as the ultimate proof of witchcraft. Katharina was then forced to kill her son and was subsequently hanged. After her death, the whole village suddenly disappeared; it was not until years later that new inhabitants returned, who were again affected by dark events, including the murder of eight children by a woman who claimed she had been incited to commit the act by a voice from the forest. Since then, it is believed that the spirit of Katharina still lingers and that she has a mysterious, sinister influence on the surroundings of the hollow way.
