The Hoogeland is the region above the Reitdiep. One of the oldest cultural landscapes in the Netherlands, as the first inhabitants settled in this coastal area 600 years before Christ. To keep their feet dry, artificial hills were created and the historic churches still stand at the highest points. Beautiful views and friendly villages alternate with each other. The fertile clay soil still attracts new inhabitants, as a vegetable garden thrives here!
