Højlandet er området over Reitdiep. Et af de ældste kulturlandskaber i Nederland, for 600 år før Kristus etablerede de første beboere sig allerede i dette kystområde. For at holde fødderne tørre blev der anlagt høje, og de historiske kirker står stadig på det højeste punkt. Smukke udsigter og venlige landsbyer veksler med hinanden. Den frugtbare lerjord tiltrækker stadig nye beboere, for en køkkenhave, det trives her godt!
