In 1983, Frank Storbeck, computer scientist, geologist and scientific collaborator at the University of Amsterdam, calculated the exact location of the centre of gravity of the Netherlands. The computer pointed to a field in the Sprielderbos in the municipality of Putten, located at the intersection Peppelerweg - Oude Prinsenweg. The centre of gravity is slightly different from the well-known centre of the Netherlands that lies on a hill in the woods of Lunteren. Some call the center of gravity the point around which the mass of a body is equally distributed . Harrie Hageman came up with the original idea to enrich the precise location of the centre of gravity with a distinctive sign.
