Bird Conservation Point

Location: southwest of Reusel
Remarkable: this nature reserve has only existed since 2008

The pronunciation often goes wrong, but with a line in between, it goes better: Bele-ven. There is indeed a lot to do here, especially if you are a birdwatcher. And to think that until recently there were only corn fields here.

Bird Valhalla
Nature development changed that in 2008. Over an area of 85 hectares (that's almost 1 km2!), the manure-saturated soil layer was removed: 120,000 m3. As a result, 2 fens emerged that had been filled up 100 years ago. They are surrounded by flowery grassland. Birds soon discovered the new habitat. Both waterfowl (black-necked grebe, shoveler) and meadow birds (lapwing, curlew). To be able to enjoy these birds in peace, a hide has been built. Around the fens there are still many old-fashioned sandy paths. They are surrounded by broad-bristled broombushes, from which the yellowhammer sings its melancholy song.
