Picnic table along the Zuid-Willemsvaart on the edge of the Wijboschbroek.
The Zuid-Willemsvaart runs from Maastricht to 's-Hertogenbosch. The canal is a shorter route for shipping between the Belgian and Brabant/Gelderland parts of the river Maas. There and back you walk through the beautiful forests of the Wijboschbroek.
The Wijboschbroek used to be an area with swamp forests. In the course of time, the trees were uprooted and fields were created. But as the name suggests: it was still a pair of pants, a wet area. At the end of the 19th century, the farmers gave up, embankments were made and trees were planted again. The beginning of the Wijboschbroek as we know it today.
Near the De Colonel Harry Kinnard Bridge. The length of the bridge is 110 meters and the width is 13.5 meters. The clearance is 42 metres. The bridge is made of concrete. Construction was completed in 1993.
