Bekhofschans

The Bekhofschans was built in 1582 on a scenic transition from higher grounds to the stream valley of the Lende; at a place where enemy troops broke through the Line in 1673. This place lends itself well to making the embedding of the Waterlinie in the landscape and the military story visible with a combination of paths, markers, lookouts and wet nature development. Making the ramp visible againDespite the refurbishment in 2007, the ramp is still difficult to recognize in the landscape. To improve this, it is proposed to remove all plants from the ramp (except for the monumental tree). The plants should also be removed immediately around so that the ramp is visible again. The water from the existing meander will be extended to the foot of the ramp. As a result, the ramp is located directly on the water, which increases visibility and forms an attractive image. The parking lot that is now in front of the ramp will be moved to the back side. The entrance to the ramp will be at the rear, from where a path also runs around the ramp. Restoring the redoubt's earthwork is debatable, as it is one of the few real remaining earthworks. Nevertheless, we can imagine that the raising of the ramparts is important for the experience of the ramp, and for creating an indoor space and an outdoor space. There is no need to dig into the remaining soil body.
