With its 26 meters, the Woldberg is a striking hill in the flat Steenwijkerland just north of Steenwijk. The hill is largely wooded. The De Woldberg forest area, together with De Eese, is part of the Steenwijkerwold management unit of Staatsbosbeheer.
The forest area has been in the hands of Staatsbosbeheer since 1956. Before that, it was in the hands of the Schlingemann family. Debris that resulted from the bombing of Rotterdam has been used to pave paths on the Woldberg. This rubble contained the necessary lime, as a result of which species have appeared that are bound to more calcareous soils. There are also two fens in the forest area. In the past, peat has been extracted here. Plants such as Waterdrieblad grow here.
