The Termietergouw received its name by municipal council decision from the municipality of Amsterdam on July 10, 1957, but it was incorrectly named: Termietengouw. The street derives its name from "miede," which means hay meadow. The Termietergouw is thus a rural road in/through hay meadow. In 1973, the name was changed to Termietergouw, as it had nothing to do with termites. Moreover, the name had already been used earlier, for example, in De Waterlander from November 1, 1933, which reports on an impassable Termietergouw; Nieuwendam, under which the area fell until 1921, made mention of the hardening of a road at the Termietergouw; this was in 1890. The area is visible on the map from around 1875. The road forms the boundary between the Kleine and Grote Blauwe Polder. Furthermore, the roads are centuries old; they can already be seen on the map drawn by Joan Blaeu from the 17th century. On that map, there is also a note about Der Mied near the river De Slochter.
