General Cemetery Den Helder

The General Cemetery Den Helder, also known as the cemetery of Huisduinen, is an old cemetery on the Kerkhoflaan in Den Helder. To the south is the Duinweg and to the north is an allotment complex. Adjacent to the east is the Roman Catholic cemetery Sint Jozef.Huisduinen was once an island that was moved further and further east by the sea. In the 16th century, the church disappeared into the sea. The village was rebuilt further inland and the cemetery was then moved to the highest part of the island, which can be seen on a map from 1606, made by Pieter Pietersen.
