The Varkenskade was an old connection between the Ridderbuurt and the church near ter Aar. In the past it was really a quay, common ground where pigs were sometimes let gather their food, hence the name. It is listed as a footpath on the maps from around 1900. In the 20th century, the quay was smoothed and a piece of pasture. And since September 27, 2013 reopened to hikers.
