The Kennemerplein is a square in the Stationsbuurt in the center of Haarlem, directly behind the station building on the north side of Haarlem station. The square originated in 1677 as the Plein at the Kennemer- or Nieuwpoort. The names Boeren Varkensmarkt and Varkensmarkt also appear. From 1677 to around 1860, the Nieuwpoort, the city gate that was also called Kennemerpoort, stood near the Kennemer bridge. To the west of the square was the Noorderkerkhof on the Staten Bolwerk. Between 1770 and 1960 there was a Jewish cemetery east of the square on the Prinsen Bolwerk.
