Landhuis Duin en Kruidberg is the monumental country house of the Duin en Kruidberg estate. It functions as a four-star hotel, restaurant, wedding and meeting location. Tobacco merchant and minister Jacob Theodoor Cremer, had a large country house built between 1907 and 1909, equipped with two towers and about sixty rooms, halls and rooms with various modern amenities including hot air heating, private water tank and elevator. The building in neo-Dutch Renaissance style was designed by architect Johannes van Nieukerken, who later in 1913 was commissioned by Cremer to take care of the Colonial Institute. The country estate was designated a national monument in 2001 because of its history and the neatly preserved interior, which has been worked on by various artists as a gesammtkunstwerk, including the sculptors Rien Hack, August Alexander, Louis Vreugde, and the Amsterdam ornamental blacksmith Janus Dingemans.
