The old water tower of Zandvoort was built in 1912 as the first water tower of the Dutch seaside resort Zandvoort, and a year later this tower was put into use. The water tower had a height of 38 meters above sea level.
In 1912, Zandvoort got connected to the water supply network of Haarlem. The construction of the water tower was necessary to provide sufficient water pressure for the then tall buildings and hotels. On September 24, 1912, the tender was held. The municipal council had approved a budget of 45,200 guilders for a water tower with a viewing possibility. The work was commissioned to the "Hollandse Maatschappij voor het maken van werken in gewapend beton." The highest point of the village was chosen as the location, where the lighthouse once stood. The tower was almost entirely built of concrete. The spiral staircase, also made of concrete, had 120 steps and there were three resting places. The tower was completed on June 1, 1913. In 1937, the tower was fitted with a clock by the Turmac cigarette factory. 30 years after its completion, on September 17, 1943, the water tower was blown up by the German army with 12 charges of dynamite. It took three months to clear the debris.
