The hamlet Mosselhoek falls, even for the postal addresses, under Tholen city, and has no own place name sign. Means corner 'sharp or protruding bend' where many mussels occur. The Present State of Zeeland mentions in 1753 that many residents of Tholen "embarrass themselves in summer with the mussel catch, bringing their mussels and crabs, or even to the market, or mostly selling them to others, who bring them for sale in the main cities of the Netherlands."
