In 1760, Ch.B. Strick van Linschoten, widow of Mr. G.C. van Riebeek, had a farmhouse constructed. The farmhouse was named after the estate she owned: Essesteijn. The year of construction and the initials of the client and her husband are mentioned on the gable of the front facade. The barn, which stands parallel to the farmhouse, is also protected, as is the wooden haystack behind the barn of the farmhouse. The six-rood haystack has a thatched roof with rafters (round timber). Since 1988, Essesteijn houses the city children's farm.
