The former orangery of the estate Rusthof is located at the corner of Oosteinde and Prins Albertlaan. The 17th-century estate Rusthof consisted in 1848 of a mansion, a coach house, and stables with the residences of the coachmen and stable staff above, a formal garden with orangery and gardener's house, a barn and greenhouses, garden walls, and two large meadows. The orangery was built against the stable of an existing 17th-century farm called Onder de Linden. The preserved part of the farm still lies behind the tall building. Although in 1911 all buildings except the orangery were demolished, the memory of Rusthof has remained very vivid. This is because Marianne, Princess of the Netherlands, purchased Rusthof in 1848. Here she stayed with her illegitimate son Johannes Willem, whose father, J. van Rossum, was her servant and later librarian. Marianne lived at Rusthof until her death and was very significant for Voorburg. The upper floor of the orangery was used as an office during her time.
