Plichthoeve

This is Hofstede Plichthoeve which has a rich history.

Between the years 1000 and 1200 there was a Motte castle on this site. Together with Motte Ten Bossche (corner Bosweg-Milandweg) and the castle in Zwammerdam, the Counts of Holland had a fortified line on the north side of the then border river Meije. On the south side ruled the bishop of Utrecht, who in turn had erected a fortification a little further on his side of the river Meije, where the Veldzicht farm is now located, not far from the beginning of the Kerkweg.

From 1428 onwards a 'house and homestead' (a house and a farm) is mentioned. The Meije farm was located at the strategic point where the river Meije and the Nieuwkoopse Uitwatering (now called Oude Vaart) came together. It was originally a so-called "knightly court city", which was given in fief by the Counts of Holland to members of the Van der Mije family.

In a charter of 1696 'De Heerlijkheid de Meije' is further specified as: 'a knightly Hofstadt and three beautiful well-timbered houses with the lands belonging to them, being a fief of the County of Holland, together large ruijm hundred-mun; so (well) weij- and hay land laying rontom, having on its quay a free water mill, a bird cow and the free fishing: naemd de Heerlijkheijd van de Meije'.

In 1814 the Meijehoeve is described as a 'Knightly Homestead being a capital builder's house (= farmer's house) with summer house, barn, (...) mountain (=haystack) and orchard (...) with meadow and hay land.'

On the wall of a barn, which belongs to that farm, there is still an old gable stone, on which is written: "1629 Het stamhuis vant afdood gheslacht van die van van der Mye" with three coats of arms.

In 1992 the entire building was rebuilt according to old maps and has the character of the past again.
