Former farm De Oude Werf, Korte Kerkweg 12 and 13
Until 1967, this 18th-century farmhouse, called De Oude Werf, stood on the site of houses nos. 12 and 13. It was one of the many farms in the agricultural village of Kockengen, but this farm was given a new function in 1964: it became a museum!
In that year, the Kockengen Antiquities Room moved to this place. It was founded in 1958 and was housed in the attic of the town hall on the Kerkplein. In this regional museum 'Vecht en Rijnstreek', the youth could see how their grandparents and great-grandparents lived and worked. The collection of tools, works of art and objects had been collected by the inhabitants of Kockengen. For example, there were centuries-old irons, a pipe from 1750, cheese production equipment and skulls of criminals that had been hung on the Kockengen gallows.
The collection expanded to include farm wagons and carriages, making the space too small. After the purchase of the Oude Werf by the municipality, the museum moved here. Unfortunately only for three years, when the farm was demolished due to dilapidatedness.
And the museum? This was disbanded in 1974 and the collection was spread throughout the country.
Route: Continue on the road and turn right over the bridge. Walk over the Bijleveld and turn right onto the Wagendijk. Follow the road - it turns into the Voorstraat - until no. 24.
You can make a short trip to the Roman Catholic cemetery from 1873, by turning left on the Wagendijk and following the road for 200 meters.
