The first Crosiers settled around Uden in the 17th century. They were expelled from that city after the Siege of 's-Hertogenbosch and settled in the free Land of Ravenstein, which included Uden. Among other things, they founded a Latin school, a monastery and a chapel. They were also the founders of the convent of Maria Refugie, which was later sold to the birgittines of Coudewater. In 1712 they built an octagonal chapel in Uden, where, according to legend, there was a lime tree with a statue of the Virgin Mary in it. At the beginning of the 20th century, a new complex was built, consisting of the monastery and the Kruisheren chapel. This complex was built in the years 1904-1905 to a design by Caspar Franssen.
