Dinteloord has all the characteristics of a polder place. The history of the village begins shortly after the reclamation of the Prinsenland, the area between the rivers Vliet and Dintel, in the year 1605. It was the largest reclamation project in West Brabant. This area belonged to Prince Philip William of Orange, the eldest son of Prince William I of Orange. In the same year, 1605, Dinteloord was also established. The buildings were modeled after Flakkeese style and consisted of only two front streets and two back streets on either side of De Kreek.
