Dinteloord possède toutes les caractéristiques d'une localité polder. L'histoire du village commence peu après le remblaiement du Prinsenland, la région entre les rivières Vliet et Dintel, en l'an 1605. C'était le plus grand projet de remblaiement de la région de West-Brabant. Cette zone appartenait au prince Philippe Guillaume d'Orange, le fils aîné du prince Guillaume Ier d'Orange. La même année, 1605, Dinteloord a également été fondée. L'urbanisme était de style flakkéen et se composait seulement de deux rues avant et de deux rues arrière de chaque côté de De Kreek.
