The Ysselsteyn war cemetery is the only German war cemetery in the Netherlands. The cemetery was established in 1947 on behalf of the Dutch government and covers an area of approximately 28 hectares. Here you will find the graves of more than 31,598 deceased individuals. Almost all the people here died during World War II, but there are also 87 war dead from the First World War.
Most of the war dead are German soldiers who were fulfilling their mandatory military service, but at the German War Cemetery, you will also find SS members and war criminals, Dutch collaborators, volunteers from the Wehrmacht from other countries, and some civilians, including women and children.
