The Monument for Three Decades of Delta Works is a reminder of the three decades of Delta Works that took place between 1960 and 1990.
The whole is a tribute to all polder workers who have worked in the past and present, in all weather conditions, on the sea defences in our area and who still work today.
The monument consists of 3 parts :
- A mound in mosaic form , made of natural stone which was always used for making sea defences in West Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
- The concrete wall with the contours of a stainless steel stone setter on the sea side, below which the written motto: “the working man, creating in the waves of time”.
- On the land side of the wall are three triangles , each consisting of ten stainless steel beams, representing three decades of the Delta Works.
The monument was designed by Jaap Boekhout from Breskens. It was unveiled on 7 September 1990 by H. Eversdijk, member of the House of Representatives and Th.P. Cambier, former dike reeve of the water board Het Vrije van Sluis.
