Parkstad is the new name for the Eastern Mining Region. The coal mines used to be where a beautiful recreation area has arisen or green opulence. In this region many houses have been built in a short time to give the miners a good shelter. Entire neighborhoods arose and in the Limburg dialect they say; miners colonies. These neighborhoods give a good picture of the zeitgeist. De Witte Hopel in Eygelshoven is a national monument, but the neighborhoods in the villages through which this route passes are definitely worth a closer look.
