This hiking route is located near Nieuwvliet and takes you along polders, a unique wet natural landscape, beach, sea, and dunes. There is plenty of variety and many opportunities to observe water and meadow birds.

Nieuwvliet: drained for centuries, and you can hardly see that the marine arm 'Het Zwarte Gat' once ran between the islands of Groede and Cadzand. In Nieuwvliet, you will find cozy dike houses and a church from the year 1659.

The Drowned Black Polder: long after the marine arm 'Het Zwarte Gat' was drained, there were still marshes and mudflats here. In 1626, this polder was enclosed, and a century and a half later, it was underwater again. The tide now has free rein.

Tienhonderdpolder: you can see this polder when you stand at the top of the dike at junction 23. The polder used to consist of a thousand morgen (pieces of land of 44 ares); hence the name.

Nature Reserve Drowned Black Polder: here you hike over wooden boards through a marsh and mudflat area. The mudflats are teeming with life: worms and shellfish in abundance. Water birds like to search for food on the mudflats.

Baanstpolder: the unpaved path through this polder leads through new nature right along a water ditch.

Beach: Nieuwvliet has a wide beach, at high tide many crabs and puddles remain. On clear days, you can see Vlissingen on the other side of the Westerschelde. At the beach, you regularly find fossilized shark teeth.
