The Pieterpad was conceived, walked, and described between 1978 and 1983 by Toos Goorhuis-Tjalsma from Tilburg and Bertje Jens from Groningen. Two friends who believed that the Netherlands could really use a serious long-distance path. They were inspired by a hiking trip in the German Black Forest and wanted to establish something similar in the Netherlands. At your own pace, you experience how enjoyable it is to walk through landscapes and regions that you may have only seen from the car or the train before. The Pieterpad takes you along the smallest roads and paths, as much as possible unpaved. You determine the distance per day yourself, but away from all daily concerns, you always have a delightful walking experience.
