Cycling along a unique nature reserve.
In the 12th century, the Zwin was a mighty arm of the sea leading to Bruges. The arm silted up, and since the 18th century, it has become an inaccessible area of bays, ditches, salt marshes, and sandbanks connected to the sea. It is a special nature reserve where ebb and flow alternate. The water spreads over the salt marshes behind it. At low tide, the water remains in the muddy beds. The Zwin is a paradise for birds, with no fewer than 300 different bird species sighted.
