Harderbos
Together with Harderbroek and Kievitslanden, Harderbos is one of the most varied and mature nature reserves in Flevoland. Within walking distance of each other you will find forest next to rugged swamps, flowery grassland and bird-rich lakes.
Experience the beauty of a fresh green spring. Remotely follow a harrier hunting prey. In winter, discover deer on the edge of the forest. You can enjoy nature for four seasons!
New primal nature
The first poplar forests were created in the Harderbos in 1968. Natuurmonumenten has been making new primeval nature out of these monotonous production forests since 1997. Nature that is becoming more beautiful, more varied and bigger. And that at a rapid pace, because of the fertile clay soil. Little remains of the boring production forest, now that dead wood remains and other trees are given space and spontaneously take root. You will discover the Harderbos as a green oasis with remarkably thick trees.

60 species of breeding birds
This semi-feral landscape attracts more and more protected birds, shy mammals and picky amphibians and reptiles. More than sixty different bird species breed in and around the forest, including the beautiful kingfisher. In forest and open field, the hawk and marsh harrier hunt. Mammals such as fox, roe deer, polecat, hare and ermine hide at the forest edges. Beware of Scottish highlanders grazing in the forest, keep your distance, they are wild animals.

Climate forest
At the beginning of 2008, Natuurmonumenten successfully campaigned to create a climate forest. In just over one week, 60,000 trees and 20,000 shrubs were sold and planted on 28 hectares of land next to the Harderbos. No less than 6000 people came to plant their own tree. The action was supported by our members, companies, organizations and well-known Dutch people, with HRH Princess Máxima as the most famous guest and Sophie Hilbrand and Filemon Wesselink as initiators. During the action week we were in the press. Thanks to many, there is now a living symbol for a better climate.
