The Hoorneboegse Heide in Hilversum offers an intriguing walk full of nature and history. The rolling landscape was formed 150,000 years ago during the penultimate Ice Age. The area is part of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and is home to many animal species, including foxes and rabbits. Charolais cattle graze here to maintain the heath. From the Hoorneboeg, which is more than twenty meters high, you have a beautiful view over the heath. At the top once stood a wooden hunting lodge, later replaced by a stone villa, which is now a conference center. The heath is also known for its ley lines, energy paths that some believe mark sanctuaries. Along the route are burial mounds from the period 2900-1100 BC. These mounds are protected from erosion by barbed wire. The walk often ends with a shelter under the trees in case of rain. This area combines natural beauty with a rich historical background.
