The area is located southwest of Weert and is approximately 100 ha in size. It is named after the steam-powered iron dredger on rails that was used from 1910 to 1913 to extract sand. The Grote IJzeren Man and the Kleine IJzeren Man are puddles that remained after the sand extraction. The Zwanenven, Geurtsven, and Eendenven are typical heathland ponds located in the lower parts of this gently rolling dune landscape.
In the IJzeren Man area, there is plenty to experience; it is also the gateway to the KempenBroek. With various attractions in one area, young and old can easily fill a day out. The Nature and Environmental Center De IJzeren Man is a must-visit. You can discover nature together by visiting the exhibition, exploring the garden, or even getting hands-on at the activity square.
