The Schwienswei is a park-like nature reserve and forms the green lung of the city of Sittard. There are vast grassy meadows and plenty of water in the form of streams and fishing ponds. The Geleenbeek, the Molenbeek, and the Roode Beek flow through this area.
At the border with Germany, nature flows undisturbed into the nature reserve Tüdderner Fenn. This results in a relatively high number of wild animals in the Schwienswei: deer, badgers, and even raccoons! In and around the water, there are many butterflies, dragonflies, croaking frogs, and hefty carp. The beaver also leaves its traces here.
