This walk through the Dommel river basin around Sint-Oedenrode took place in November 2025. The weather was still particularly beautiful and mild. We parked at the sluitappel in Sint-Oedenrode.

One of the first highlights is the Veldwegtoren, a modern lookout tower that towers above the landscape. From the platform, you have a stunning view over the meandering river, the village of Sint-Oedenrode, and the forests in the distance. The Dommel winds through the green valley like a silver ribbon – a place that invites you to pause for a moment.

Further on, you reach Kasteel Dommelrode, the historical heart of Sint-Oedenrode. This medieval castle, surrounded by water features and ancient trees, once served as the administrative center of the area. Today it is the town hall, but the grandeur of the past is still palpable in the stately façades and the tranquility of the park.

Not long after, the elegant Kasteel Henkenshage appears, with its white-plastered towers and moat filled with ducks. This was once a knight's court town, later a country residence, and now a popular wedding venue. The walk takes you along the castle moat and through the adjacent park, where old trees and graceful paths evoke an almost romantic atmosphere.

From the castle, you quickly reach the meandering Dommel, which quietly carves its way through the landscape. Here you walk along grassy paths and small bridges close to the water, while the view keeps changing.

The walk ends at the distinctive Knoptoren, the only remnant of the medieval Sint-Martinus church. This characteristic tower forms a recognizable silhouette above Sint-Oedenrode and tells, just like the Dommel itself, the story of centuries of history.
