City walk Coevorden (Vestewanderung)

The origin of Coevorden begins with a fordable spot in the river, where cows were driven across. This spot was created by the deposition of sand and silt and was referred to as "Vorde." Over time, this place came to be called "Koevorde." Ultimately, this is how the name Coevorden came to be. Compare it to the English place Oxford, which has a similar meaning.
In Coevorden, you stroll through the center of a city with a special historical past. The medieval town was a gateway to the north of the Netherlands due to its strategic location. Enemy conquerors lay in wait for their opportunity. Therefore, Coevorden had to take action: the castle and the remnants of the fortifications still testify to this today.

Free parking is available at the "De Pampert" parking lot. This parking lot is located next to the swimming pool De Swaneburg (Pampert 2) and is just a few minutes' walk from the center.
